Herbert Romaro asked:

A golf cart, or golf car, is a small, motorized vehicle used to carry golfers and personnel from one place to another on golf courses. These little vehicles were designed for those individuals who can’t or aren’t inclined to walk, such as senior citizens and the handicapped. Golf carts are typically two-seaters with room for at least two golf bags.

Golf carts are now available in an array styles and colors, just like regular automobiles. The difference between regular automobiles and golf carts is that the latter, due to its small, low-powered engine, is only able to move at slow speeds, which fits it with its intended purpose: golfers can relax and enjoy the surroundings while traversing across fairways and greens during an otherwise laidback game.

These specialized vehicles are built at three primary manufacturers: Yamaha, “E Z Go,” and Ingersoll Rand Corporation’s Club Car division. The last manufacturer, known simply as “Club Car,” is the main source for the golf cart family. Each manufacturer has developed its own line of aftermarket parts and accessories to facilitate off-road capabilities, such as a variety of kits intended to enhance appearance and performance in non-public settings.

Golf carts run on both gas-powered and electricity-powered engines, but can also accommodate larger engines, such as the Honda 24 HP v twin engine or the Briggs

I cannot find ANY products that would help prevent theft. I do have a steering wheel lock that fits on top of a regular car’s steering wheel and prevents theft because it bangs into the window, etc. when you try to steer… but since the golf cart is “open air”… this won’t work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
NOTE: Taking out the keys is about as effective as taking the keys out of a regular car. Please… helpful answers only. Thank you.

IC asked:

Electric golf carts arrived at the first courses to use them in 1951. Merle Williams from Reading, California produced the first electric golf carts using knowledge he attained from electric cars produced during the World War Two gasoline rationing period. In 1954 E-Z-GO and LEKTRO began production and in 1955 Cushman began production. Harley Davidson even started making golf carts in 1963. Gas golf carts came upon the scene in 1971 and immediately became a huge hit. Currently you will see both gas and electric carts at most golf courses.

A standard golf cart is set up to carry two golfers and two golf bags on a platform at the rear of the cart. Most carts have a roof and front windshield. If you are into cold weather golf you can find carts with enclosures. The enclosures are usually made of flexible heavy duty plastic and have a door with a window on each side that closes snugly with velcro. The last few years propane gas “cart heaters” have also been available. I can tell you from experience that they produce a lot of heat. You can ride down the cart path when it’s freezing outside and inside the cart it will be toasty warm. They come with a small propane tank attached that fits in the cup holder in the golf cart. Another nice add-on is a convertible bag cover attached to the rear of the golf cart’s roof. It is easy to quickly put it up or down, and will keep the rain off the clubs and features a clear vinyl window. Another nice feature available at some golf courses is the GPS system, which will tell you how far it is in yards to the pin.

There are also options available like the cargo box which is mounted to the cart in the rear, turning the cart into a utility vehicle. The cargo boxes are usually about 2 1/2 feet wide and from three to four feet long. They are great for golf course maintenence, or around the homestead. Another option is a rear facing seat which then turns the golf cart into a small vehicle which seats three passengers and the driver. These are usually utilized for hotel or large motel guest transportation. Who can forget the pink golf cart used in the television series “Fantasy Island”?

The last subject I want to touch on is the monster cart. Usually monster carts are brightly and decoratively painted, and have any number of option add-ons like raiser kits, which bring the height of the cart up, racey wheel kits and large tires, lights front and rear, horns, a number of front and/or rear bumper configurations, and custom bodies and interiors are readily available.

Christine Harrell asked:

Perhaps it’s because they’re so fun that many people tend to categorize golf carts as toys instead of a true vehicle that needs maintenance and repair. Golf carts do require much less maintenance than our regular automobiles. In the case of golf cats, especially golf cart batteries, preventative maintenance is the key to ensuring that you get the most out of the money you invested in your golf cart.
Your golf cart battery many not need to be changed
Most people don’t realize that many golf cart batteries need constant maintenance. Many golf cart batteries require that water or acid be added to the battery on regular intervals. If your golf cart batteries are not sealed golf cart batteries, check the water levels and add distilled water or acid as needed.
Adding water to golf cart batteries:
Unless you’ve got a maintenance-free sealed electric golf cart battery, you’ll need to develop a routine to check the water level in your golf cart batteries at least once a month. If the water level gets too low and stays below the plates, your battery may be damaged to the point where if must be replaced. When adding water to golf cart batteries, use only pure distilled water and be careful not to over fill. Overfilling will cause the acid mixture to spill out which can eat away at the surrounding components.
Charging dead golf cart batteries:
If the battery has gone completely dead, it will take several hours to fully charge the battery. It’s important to fully charge golf cart batteries if you want to increase the lifespan of the battery. Sometimes the battery has lost its charge to the point that it won’t even trigger an automatic charger. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the battery is gone for good. Try a non-automatic charger and let the battery charge for about an hour then check to see if there is any voltage increase.
Choosing a maintenance free battery:
If you don’t have the time or desire to maintenance golf cart batteries, you’ll probably want to choose a deep cycle, sealed golf cart battery. These golf cart batteries use AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology and are virtually maintenance-free like a car battery. Another bonus to these golf cart batteries is the fact that they don’t leak or corrode the terminals. eBatteries To Go offers charts to match your cart’s length, width, height, and amp hour (AH) to the correct maintenance-free golf cart batteries.
The last thing anyone wants to worry about during a golf game is whether or not their golf cart will start. Caring for your golf cart batteries correctly or choosing a maintenance free battery will help extend the life of your battery and ensure that while on the course, the game will be the only thing you’ll be focused on.

If you know anyone or have ideas.. write me!
