Eric Lingrind asked:

Cushman is a name well known in the industry and the history of Cushman golf carts begins with the ever so popular three wheel gas trikes used by Meter Maids.
You may recall them. These are the little vehicles that used to follow tardy shoppers around and hand out nasty parking tickets. They were powered by a four cycle 2 cylinder engine.
But Cushman was also known for their three wheel golf car known as the 735. It originated with the same four cycle 2 cylinder engine but later became powered by the 4 cycle 8 or 10 hp engine. They also offered a 36 volt electric golf cart which had a GE electric motor.
In 1975 the last Cushman golf cart hit the market. After that they focused their energy on other types of utility vehicles that were designed to carry loads and be used for turf care.
Ransomes of England then purchased the company. In 1998 the company was then bought by Textron Corp which is the parent company to Jacobson Turf Equipment and EZ Go Golf cars.
In the Cushman combo the rear seal would flip one way so that you could carry your golf bag or you can carry two extra passengers that face backwards.
The combo came with all kinds of accessories which included turn signals, lights, long top, windshield, and brake lights.
Today there is a full line of Cushman Golf Carts:
Bellhop 2Has a 48 volt electric motor with a 1200 pound load capacity and a cargo deck that measures 48 inches by 68.5 inches. It holds two passengers and does up to 15 mph.
It is also available with an 11 hp 4 cycle 350 cc twin cylinder gas engine with a 1200 pound load capacity and 15 mph speed limit.
Both models have a welded tubular steel chassis with rack and pinion steering. It has electric brakes, mechanical drum breaks on the rear, hydraulic disks on the front. It comes with multiple leaf springs, and a padded seat.
You can choose some accessory packages which include headlights, taillights, brake lights, a windshield, a top, hub caps, and turn signals.
There is also the Bellhop 4 and Bellhop 6. The primary difference is body styling. Both have the same electric or gas engine as the Bellhop 2. Then there is the Shuttle 2+2 line. The 2+2 comes with a 36 volt electric motor and a 800 pound payload with speeds around 14 mph. It seats 4 and has a larger body than the Bellhop series.
The gasoline model is a 4 cylinder 9 hp 295 twin cylinder engine with an 800 pound load capacity and a top speed of 14 mph.
It has rack and pinion steering on a welded tubular steel chassis. It has adjustable mechanical drum brakes and padded seats all as standard equipment. Options include hub caps, a top, a windshield, wheel covers, and turn signals.
Parts and accessories are readily available online for the earliest models to current models. Cushman golf carts have been around a long time and have come a long way from the Meter Maid trikes of early days.

The light will plug into any cigarette lighter. I’m planning on splitting the wires and putting clamps on each wire to clamp them onto the battery terminals. I have a golf cart I want to connect this to. The cart has 6 batteries, 6 volts each (total 36 volt system). All the batteries, of course, are wired together. How would I connect the clamps? To a single battery? To different batteries? Or can I even do it without blowing the bulb? Obviously I know nothing about electricity, but I’ve wired a light like this in the past to a 12 volt battery and it works fine. But how to wire one (if it can be done) into my golf cart with this 36 volt system with 6 batteries (6 volts each) has me puzzled. I don’t want to ruin my light. Thanks for any help.

1. Golf Shoes
Having the proper footwear improves your game immensely. Golf shoes are designed to grip the green so you have a nice firm stance when you hit the ball. You can often rent shoes if you don’t play often, just check local golf stores and clubs.

2. Water
Doctors recommend you drink water every 30 minutes when you are out on a hot or sunny day. Make sure to bring plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated.

3. Extra Shirt
Remember that it gets hot out there in the sun! Bring an extra shirt to change into after the game, so you don’t have to go to lunch smelling like you just climbed Everest.

4. Tee
Although courses usually provide these to you, it doesn’t hurt to have a few around just in case. Plus, having tees of your own allows you to practice on your own lawn at home.

5. Golf Bag
Having a bag for your clubs makes your job or your caddy’s job much more comfortable. Bags are also important because they protect your clubs, which don’t come cheap.

6. Golf Cart Rental
Some golf courses may require you to rent a golf cart ahead of time if you don’t have your own. Make sure you check, or you may be have to walk, making your game more tiresome and take more time.

7. Extra Balls
So many things can happen on a course to cause you to lose your golf ball. Make sure you bring plenty of extras, so you don’t have to buy more at the club at a possibly inflated price.

8. Wide Range of Clubs
Different strokes call for different clubs. Have a variety of clubs to choose from, so you are prepared for any and every situation.

9. Towel
A towel, like water, makes golfing on a hot day much easier. Whether you’re toweling off your hair or wiping off your club, having a towel or two around can be a big help.

10. Club Covers
Club covers in addition to a bag keep your club edges sharp. Dents in the club edges may make your drive less straight, making your game less fun.

Jim Johnson asked:

For many years you could expect to see golf carts only on a golf course, and usually you could only rent them for that round of golf. But a lot has changed in the golf cart world, and many golfers are finding that it makes sense to go ahead and buy their own golf cart instead of renting it.
Some country clubs are now allowing members to buy and use their own golf cart when playing the course, and this lets each member customize their own golf cart in any way that they wish. Golf carts are also extremely popular with players who live in a retirement community that has a golf course. Many are discovering that golf carts have a wide range of use, even being able to be driven on the street in some cases. In some retirement communities, golfers have outfitted their own golf cart with lights, brake lights, safety belts, and all the other necessary equipment to be able to actually drive their cart on the road. And then when they want to play golf, they just drive their golf cart down to the clubhouse and right onto the course.
So if you think that buying a golf cart may make sense for you, what should you be looking for when you buy? Well first of all, you will find that there are several different competing brands of golf carts that are available for sale. And most all of these manufacturers turn out a very good, high-quality product. However, golf carts are very different from one brand to another, both in appearance and in the way they drive and handle. Each brand also has its own strengths and weaknesses, and that makes it imperative for you to determine in advance how you intend to use your golf cart and then try to find the brand that will best fit your needs.
Unlike many years ago, there are quite a few golf cart dealers spread across the country. So usually you should be able to find some dealers in your general area without too much trouble. When you locate them, pay them a visit to test drive the golf cart models that each dealer has in stock. You never want to buy a golf cart without having driven it yourself under conditions that would be similar to those that you will be using it in. You don’t want any unpleasant surprises after the cart has been bought.
If you intend to use your golf cart for more than just off-road activity, or just on the golf course, you can always make the golf cart street legal as long as your local laws will allow it. There are no federal laws regarding the use of golf carts, so usually the regulations that govern golf carts are made by individual cities and states instead.
There are also plenty of accessories that you can add to your golf cart to personalize it and make it your own. Some of these accessories include windshields, different kinds of tops and sides, lights and much more.
When it comes time to pay for your new golf cart, you can expect the price to fall somewhere in the $5,000 - $10,000 range, although if you choose not to add on accessories, and keep the costs to a bare minimum, you may be able to spend less then $5,000.
Whether or not owning a golf cart will work best for you is a personal decision, but for many people a golf cart can turn out to be a time and labor saving device both on the course and off.

Chris Jensen asked:

But many people cannot afford one due to its high cost. Moreover if you are not a person who plays the game frequently then investing in one is not worth it.

Some of them who are interested in owning one may not be able to afford it due to its cost. The best alternative is to get a second hand golf cart at a lower rate. There are chances that you may be able to get a really good one at a very low price.

There are many sources from where you may get a second hand golf cart. Golf courses are the main locations from where you may get one as many people place advertisements there.

In many cases golf carts will be there so that you may be able to have a close look at them before deciding up on one. Advertisements can also be found in newspapers and internet. When searching through the net, be sure of the location of the golf cart or else you may end up paying for the shipment of the cart as well.

Most producers of the golf carts also may have second hand golf carts with them for sale. They acquire them through exchange offers from people who want to buy a new one. They do any modifications or repair work necessary before placing them for sale again. Some manufacturers even offer limited period of warranty on such used golf carts which is a good investment.

When you go to purchase a used golf cart, remember to give it a through check before selecting. This way you will know whether the product is really worth the price you are paying for it.

Ask the cart to be driven to see how it is operating. Listen for the sounds made by it and see whether the gear can be changed smoothly. Check the condition of the tires as well. The interior of the cart should also be checked properly.

If you find it difficult to invest in a brand new golf cart, it does not mean you should not own one. You can always go for a second hand one and that too at a lower price. By investing in a used one you may enjoy its benefits for the time being.

Later on when you can afford, you may go for a brand new one in exchange of this. There is a lot of offers on used golf carts in the market, so check it out and grab the opportunity of owning a golf cart.

Robert Partain asked:

There was a time when using a motorized golf cart was something of a luxury. Most players back then used either their shoulders to carry their clubs or a three-wheeled buggy looking thing that you pulled behind you. Ah, those were the days.
In most places it’s not like that anymore. Golf carts are fairly common and almost the norm. You rarely see people walking the course, which, in a way, seems sad to me. I’ve played courses in the last few years that more resembled bumper car games at the circus than a golf course. But there is something to be said for them. Over the years golf has become a very popular game and the average course has far more players today than it did ten years ago. With that many more players on the course, the golf cart has certainly helped in moving play along, resulting in less wait time on the tee.
In general there are two ways to have a golf cart at your disposal. You can rent one from the pro shop, which is what most people do, and this is a very good option for it keeps you from having to keep up with the maintenance of the cart. The other option is to buy your own, which can be costly at the outset but it lets you avoid those rental fees.
Buying a golf cart is a little like buying a car. You get them new or used. If you want to buy a new golf cart be prepared to pay anywhere from $4500 to $10,000 depending on the model, the seating capacity and whatever added options you may want. You will need to decide if you want a gasoline engine or an electric engine. You will need to consider a trailer (to get the thing from place to place) as well as some type of towing hitch to connect the trailer to your vehicle.
Safe and reliable used golf carts can be found in any price range, but they usually run around $2000 for a good one. This price may or may not include the trailer and hitching balls. If you are planning to buy a used golf cart, you can approach it the same way you would buying a used car. Examine the cart carefully, both topside and underneath and inspect the engine for oil leaks or frayed wires. Take it for a spin and make sure that the recharge equipment is in working order.
The Internet offers a lot of places selling both new and used golf carts. If you don’t have a dealer near you, you can do a search through Google or Yahoo and come up with hundreds of dealers.
As stated earlier, golf carts have become the norm in many place and owning your own can be reasonably affordable if you do some shopping first.
